Aussie Patio Designs, a Perth-based patio builder with over 25 years of experience, approached us after Google core updates caused a sharp decline in their search rankings. Despite their strong reputation and portfolio, they were losing visibility to long-established competitors.
The goal was clear: restore their search visibility, capture new customers, and establish them as Perth’s go-to patio brand.
Brief
Following the ranking losses, Aussie Patio Designs needed a rapid recovery strategy to bring in more non-branded organic traffic, boost brand visibility, and secure a consistent flow of leads.
Our objectives were to:
- Triple top-3 keyword rankings
- Double monthly organic sessions
- Increase branded searches to strengthen recognition and trust
- Maintain enough qualified leads to keep crews booked several months ahead
Challenges
Fierce market competition
The Perth patio market is dominated by large, well-established companies with long-standing SEO investment. These competitors were entrenched at the top of Google’s results, making it difficult for smaller operators to break through for valuable keywords.
Post-update ranking decline
Google’s algorithm changes had significantly reduced their visibility for high-intent search terms, cutting into both website traffic and lead flow.
Content and topical gaps
Their website lacked the depth and topical authority needed to compete with larger brands. Informational queries, style inspiration, and buying guides were being captured by content-heavy competitors.
Strategy
We implemented a lean, high-impact SEO strategy focused on high quality content creation, reputation management for local SEO, and total search intent coverage for all stages of the patio building journey.
Full-funnel content hub
Built out three key content pillars: patio guides, patio ideas, and outdoor improvement. These were designed to answer homeowner questions, inspire design decisions, and guide visitors from research to enquiry. This way, Aussie Patio Designs were able to be seen across all stages of their customer’s journey and funnel.
Proof-led authority loop
Automated review and photo collection via Google Business Profile, repurposing this customer proof into blog posts, case studies, and style features to reinforce trust and increase branded searches.
Entity optimisation
Analysed competitor topic graphs and mapped relevant patio-related entities such as patio maintenance, council approvals, and style variations. We utilised that to create rich, comprehensive content to win both informational and commercial search intent on topics that matter.
Creative execution
- Inspiration listicles with dynamic titles (e.g., “110 Patio Ideas”) to capture list-intent traffic from platforms like Pinterest and Houzz
- Social content recycling, turning Instagram and Facebook posts into evergreen blog articles
- Magazine-style service pages with visual galleries, timelines, and design tips to guide users towards enquiries
- Added unique, high-value resources like a patio financing calculator and detailed project showcases to outperform competitors on information gain
- Utilised only original media and real project photos to directly show Aussie Patio Design’s potential customers of their capability (show, don’t tell)
Results
Within 16 months, the campaign delivered transformative results:
- Organic sessions grew by over 240%, far exceeding the initial target
- Top-3 keyword rankings increased by more than 1,100%, making our mark in Perth’s competitive patio market
- Branded searches rose by over 50%, strengthening brand recognition and customer trust
- Lead volume grew to the point where crews were booked out 6-months in advance, doubling the original advance target
- 91% in monthly (30-day) leads through organic compared to last year
Additional search performance improvements included:
- Search Console clicks up by over 440%
- Impressions increased by more than 430%
- Year-on-year, organic traffic rose nearly 200%, with clicks up over 200% and impressions up by more than 330%
